Range Rovers have long been the recognized as the benchmark of “Status” vehicles.  But unfortunately, many owners fail to properly maintain the appearance of these prestigious vehicles.  The owner of this 2006 Black Range Rover realized the error of his ways when he took a good look at his vehicle in direct sunlight. When he came in for a service consultation he stated, “The paint looks great at night and on cloudy days but when I see it in direct sunlight or bright lights it makes me cringe.”.  As we walked around his vehicle together he admitted to loving a “clean” car, so he thought it was a good idea to purchase the unlimited wash voucher at his local automatic drive-thru carwash.  ”I even had it buffed and waxed every two months at the car wash’s detail tent.”  But instead of proudly driving the car of his dreams, this owner was rather embarrassed to be seen in an expensive vehicle that was covered in swirls, scratches and holograms. While his intentions and desires to keep his vehicle clean and shiny were good, trusting his $80,000 SUV to an automatic carwash and poorly trained technicians was definitely not the best route.   The fact is, most high-end vehicles exterior paint systems are “soft” and very susceptible to scratching, marring and fading when improperly washed and polished.  The bottom-line is that the engineers and manufacturers of these delicate machines never designed them to be “man-handled” by $5.00 car wash machines or under trained workers.

After an in-depth discussion on how Hi Def Auto Detail would repair and remove the existing damage, restore the Rover’s appearance and protect the paint system from future damage; we agreed that the Hi Def Ultra Exterior Detail was the right choice for his vehicle and budget.

The Hi Def Ultra Exterior consists of the following services:

• Exterior hand washing and cleaning of all exterior paint, glass, chrome, rims, wheel arches, tires and jambs with a premium auto shampoo and thoroughly rinsed to remove the surface dirt and debris.
• All surfaces and jambs were air purged and hand-dried with ultra plush microfiber towels.
• A Clay Detox was performed to remove bonded contaminants for the exterior paint, glass, chrome, headlights, taillights  and plastic surfaces
• To prevent any damage during the machine polishing and waxing phases, all plastic and rubber trim were taped using 3M Automotive Painters Tape.
• For the paint correction process, Hi Def Bling Nano Polish was applied to the painted surfaces using a Cyclo Dual Head Orbital Polisher to ensure the removal of all paint surface defects including, previous compound haze, scratches, swirls and holograms and to restore the paint’s rich gloss and clarity.
• For the Paint Protection process, Hi Def 1080 Nano Seal was applied to the paint to give it an outstanding shine, stunning depth and up to 12 months durability without reapplication.
• The chrome exhaust tips and 24″ chrome & black wheels were also clay bar’d, polished with steel wool and coated with Hi Def 1080 Nano Seal to protect them from exhaust discoloration and brake dust damage.

When the client returned the next morning to pick up his Rover, he was amazed by the results; “The paint looks and feels better than the day I bought it.  This is how a Range Rover is supposed to look.”

How’s the weather where you are today?  Cold and raining, maybe a little snow?  Winter is coming, and now is the time to start preparing your car for the upcoming inclement season. 

You probably already know to check your car’s coolant and heating system as well as the tires when the weather begins to change. But have you considered preparing your car’s interior and exterior surfaces for winter?  Harsh winter elements can take their toll on both your car’s interior and exterior surfaces so it’s important to take to protective precautions to ensure your car not only survives but shines this winter.

Here are a few steps to help you properly protect your car from Old Man Winter’s Bite:

1) Apply a quality Paint Sealant to your car’s paint, exterior glass and rims to prevent the damaging effects of the salt and de-icing chemicals on the road.  Rain, snow and ice in-of-themselves don’t pose the greatest treat to your car’s exterior – it’s the salt and other man-made chemicals used to clear the roadways during winter that can zap your ride’s shine.  De-icing chemicals contain corosive properties that when left on un-protected surfaces can stain, strip and even rust metal surfaces.  Quality Paint Sealants like Hi Def 1080 Nano Seal can give your car the extra amount of protection it needs to weather winter storms.  Hi Def 1080 Nano Seal’s unique blend of PTFE Acrylic Resins form a chemical resistant shield over your car’s paint, glass and rims that outlasts traditional waxes that melt, evaporate and wash away in weeks.

When a new client calls or visits the Hi Def Detail Center we always ask a few questions about their car’s appearance goals, daily driving style and regular maintenance routines.  These questions help us to determine the personalized detailing recommendations based on that owners driving situation. While we do offer several value-propositioned detail packages, we particularly specialize in creating custom solutions for owners and their cars.

That brings us to today’s Hi Def Detail Showcase – 2007 Dodge Magnum SRT-8.

The owner first contacted us with interest in one of our Detail Package Specials.   While that package is an awesome deal for most drivers, his car’s appearance needs required some additional consideration.  The owner said he drives on dirt roads every day his car is exposed to a lot of dust and debris.  He washes the car at home regularly but had not clay barred the paint in 4 years.  Additionally the car is exposed to the rural system’s  hard water and he is inconsistent with a regular waxing/paint protection routine.

 Here’s what the car looked like BEFORE we started the detail process:

As you can see the car is covered in gravel dust.  After rinsing the car off we could see all the hard water stains on the glass and panels, swirl marks from improper washing techniques, light stratches and tons of brake dust.

At this point we knew this black beast needed something a little more the “special” so we developed a customized detail solution that would accomplish the following goals:

- Remove noticable paint defects (swirls, scratches, hard water marks)

- Protect the car’s exterior paint, glass, trim from the harsh environmental elements (dust, bird poop and hard water)

- Make it easier and faster for the owner to clean the car

- Save the client  money on future detail product purchases

Here’s our process:

Paint Prep

- High Pressure Rinse

- Exterior prep wash with Hi Def Super Polymer

- Clay Bar Detox Treatment (Hi Def Super Polymer used as clay lube)

- Cleaned wheels with Hi Def Total Clean (APC)

- Dress tires with Hi Def Whip Juice

Paint Correction & Protection

- Swirl and Scratch Removal: Hi Def Medium Cut Polish (Product is still in testing and yet to be released) applied via Cyclo w/Orange Cutting Pads

- Gloss Enhancement & Protection:  Hi Def Detail Extended Life Paint  Sealant (Product is still in testing and yet to be released) applied via Cyclo w/Gray Finishing Pads

- Wheel Protection: Hi Def Detail Extended Life Paint Sealant

The pictures of the final product show that we achieved our goal restoring the clarity and gloss to the black finish.  Most noticeable paint defects were removed and protected from further damage.  Our premium paint sealant will protect the car’s exterior surfaces from the numerous contaminats that it will encounter.  Additionalaly the car will be easier to clean and maintain as the surfaces will repel and resist dirt, dust and grime.

Drive In Hi Definition.

The interior of your car takes a lot of abuse.  Unlike the inside of your home (which has many times more square footage) the inside of your car gets repeated, concentrated traffic.  Each time you get in your car, you drag in more dirt.  Each time you eat or drink in your car, you add a few more crumbs and spills.  In fact, just sitting in your car, you drop hair, dead skin, makeup and other contaminants. 

We recommend that you clean your car’s interior weekly to keep it looking, smelling and feeling like new.

Here’s what you need to complete the job:

-          Hi Def Total Clean All-Purpose Cleaner

-          Hi Def Whip Juice Multi-Purpose Conditioner and Protectant

-          Hi Def Super Plush Premium Microfiber Towels

-          Stiff bristled interior/carpet brush

Here’s how you do it:

1. Pull out your floor mats, and shake or vacuum up the dirt and debris.
2. Pick up trash and/or vacuum interior spaces.  Remove large debris from interior and vacuum carpets and upholstery. Be sure to get in-between seats, console storage bins and door pockets too.
3. Clean all vinyl and plastic surfaces with Hi Def Total Clean. Spray Total Clean onto surfaces to be cleaned and onto a folded microfiber towel.  Wait 3-5 seconds and gently wipe surfaces until stains and dirt are removed. Buff surface with a separate clean folded microfiber towel
   1. TIP:  Spray Total Clean onto a stiff bristled interior brush and scrub away tough stains on panels, upholstery and carpets.  Use a microfiber towel to blot stains carpets and upholstery.
4. Replace clean floor mats.
5. Clean door jambs and doorsills with Hi Def Super Polymer.  Spray Super Polymer onto door jambs and sills to be cleaned and onto a folded microfiber towel.  Gently wipe surfaces until dirt is gone.  Buff surface with a separate clean folded microfiber towel. 
6. Clean & Condition all leather seats and surfaces with Hi Def Leather Care.  Spray small amount of Hi Def Leather Care directly onto leather covered areas to be cleaned and conditioned. Use a mild scouring pad or upholstery brush to gently work in HD Leather Care until it foams. Use a clean folded terry towel to remove HD Leather Care.  Wipe off any overspray on glass, clear plastic or metal with a separate clean microfiber towel. (Those sensitive to certain odors should be sure to work in a well ventilated area.)
7. Condition all vinyl and plastic surfaces with Hi Def Whip Juice.  Spray Whip Juice onto area to be conditioned and onto a folded microfiber towel or sponge.  Be sure to rub in well for an even a like-new shine.  Wipe off any overspray on glass, clear plastic or metal with a separate clean microfiber towel.
8. Clean interior glass and your rearview mirror with Hi Def Super Polymer.   Spray Super Polymer onto glass to be cleaned and onto a folded microfiber towel.  Wipe glass surfaces with firm strokes until dirt is gone.  Buff glass surface at a rapid pace with a separate clean folded microfiber towel until dirt is gone.  Polish all glass with a quality window cleaner.

Keeping your car clean with regular washes is the one single maintenance activity that offers the biggest benefit to your car’s appearance. 

We recommend washing your car’s exterior every one-two weeks with Hi Def Super Polymer and Hi Def Total Clean and waxing with Hi Def 2-Wax Formula every four-six weeks to keep it looking its best.

-          Handled auto body brush and bug remover microfiber sponge

Here’s how you do it:

1. Park car in a cool shaded location.  For ideal results, car should be cool to the touch.
2. Assess your car’s condition.  Walk around the car and take notice of the level of dirtiness. If your car’s surface is caked with sand, dry mud or extreme grit, rinse with water prior to application of Hi Def products. Don’t worry all Hi Def products can be used on wet or dry surfaces.
3. Clean wheels and tires. (See Wheels and Tires page for details)
4. Prep Wash with Total Clean.  Identify areas where tough environmental contaminants like bird poop, tree sap and road tar might be.  Spray Hi Def Total Clean All Purpose Cleaner onto the affected areas and let it soak for 3-5 seconds (do not let dry). Spray Total Clean onto a water-dampened folded microfiber towel and gently rub stains until they’re gone.  Use a second clean, dry microfiber towel and buff away residue.

• TIP: Use a damp soft body brush or bug remover microfiber sponge to scrub tough stains from bumpers, hoods, mirrors and grills.

5.  Spray Hi Def Super Polymer or 2-Wax Formula onto each panel and glass surface. Spray Super Polymer or 2-Wax Formula onto a folded water dampened microfiber towel and gently wipe area to be cleaned. Use a second folded clean dry microfiber towel and buff off to a brilliant shine.

1. TIP:  Work one panel at a time at a comfortable pace.  Only go as far as you can comfortably reach.
2. TIP: Change to a clean side or a new microfiber towel often for best results.
3. TIP: Start at the roof and work your way down cleaning the least dirty areas first. Work your way to the more dirty sections like the grill and lower side rockers last.
4. TIP:  If your paint is not smooth to the touch use your favorite Clay Bar with Hi Def Super Polymer as a lube to remove deeply embedded contaminants. 

6.  Condition and protect exterior trim pieces with Whip Juice.  Spray Hi Def Whip Juice onto a folded microfiber towel and wipe/buff all plastic, vinyl, rubber trim and bumpers to restore that like new luster.
