WebWhen it happens I have a noticeable pain in my lower back and especially in my hips/glutes, but it is localized completely to that area. I wouldn't say it's a sharp pain, probably a 4-5/10. When I try to bend over there is a pronounced, strong "tightness" and moderate pain in both of my glutes around what I imagine are my sacroilliac joints. WebThe pain didn't really subside much, and for half a year I had back pain. I stopped deadlifting for quite a long time, and after that the pain was really unnoticeable, but I remained a bit stiff. I started deadlifting again, and really focused on keeping my back straight, and went above my old PR, and without pain.
WebHeavy high rep rack deads are one of the best back thickness exercises you can do. If you're just going for aesthetics, you can exclusively do rackpulls. This is my opinion. I've seen plenty a jacked bros, who don't deadlift, they just do rackpulls. They don't look weird, they have thick backs, and are pretty yolked.
WebYou may be curving your lower back a little during heavy deadlifts (pretty normal) but I imagine this might be the culprit. Sore is ok, but make sure you differentiate the soreness from a good workout versus a slight injury. It probably depends on what your relative weaknesses are and also on how strict your form is. When my back feels sore then I always do this and it helps greatly (got it from a video by powerlifter Alan thrall). Grab a doorknob or anything similar in that height and squat down ass to grass.
